Trek starts from the beautiful Spiti valley ( Kibber Village) , in Himachal Pradesh over high mountain passes to the picturesque, turquoise water lake of Tso Moriri at Korzokin Ladakh. It is one of the most beautiful trails in the Western Himalayas going over Parang La Pass (5,580 metres / 18,307 feet) with its grand views. The trek route follows the traditional old trade route from Tibet to Spiti and from Spiti to Ladakh valley.

Tso-Moriri is a huge mountain lake in the South East Ladakh, in the Rupshu (Chang-Thang Plateau, geographically- a part of Tibetan plateau) region. This lake is situated at an altitude of 4,595 metres above sea level, at a distance of 240 km from Leh city. It is pearl shape and contains large mineral deposits. Korzok village is situated on the South West bank of this lake. Korzok monastery and its inhabitants the nomad’s known as Changpa’s; are most outstanding features of this lake, who lives in Robos (Tent made from Yak wool) during summer looking after their flocks of sheep. The circumference of this lake is around 36 km. an isolated, wonderful, less traveled and very beautiful trek far in the mountains of Ladakh and Great Himalayan ranges.

Highlights of your tour starts from Manali in Kullu valley, onwards and end up in Leh – Ladakh, while discovering the beautiful Manali, Spiti valley and Ladakh valley. On the way you might see different birds, animals, including snow ibex, Himalayan blue sheep and Snow leopard (snow leopards have been sighted in these mountains). You will also visit temple and monasteries and small mountain villages on the way.

The isolated pastures and hamlets, friendly people of diverse culture offer a fascinating glimpse of traditional life, and in the background, every step of the way is the magnificent presence of the High Himalayan Peaks- providing breathtaking panoramic views.

You will be met from your flight to New Delhi International Airport by Summit Safari’s representative, and he will accompany you to your hotel in Delhi. Rest of the day is free at leisure to relax after the flight.

Early in the morning, you will be assisted to board the super fast Shatabdi Express train from New Delhi (07:40 AM) to Chandigarh ( 11:10 AM). Breakfast will be served to you on this first class train. At Chandigarh we will be met by our driver and he will drive us to Panjgain (5 hrs), where we will stay in a village home stay with our host being a incredible local Indian Family. Evening tea and snacks will be served to you on your arrival at the village home stay and later on we will take a short walk around the village Panjgain (750 metres / 2,460 ft). Overnight in village home stay.

Today morning after the breakfast we will continue our drive to Kullu (1,220 metres / 4,000 ft). Enroute we will visit Rewalser village and lake famous for its Hindu temples, Buddhist monasteries and Sikh shrine (Gurudwara). After lunch we will continue our drive to Kullu through Mandi, Pandoh Dam, and Bhuntar. We will stop for various photo stops enroute and will arrive at Kullu by late evening.

After breakfast we will hike up to the Bijali Mahadev temple (2,460 metres / 8,071 ft) from Kullu. The walk will help you to acclimatise properly before going on a high altitude trek in Indian Himalayas. It is a three kilometres trek , climbing uphill from the village of Chansari. The ancient and strange Lord Shiva temple is set up in a beautiful meadow on the top of the hill, famous for its Shiva –Lingam, where lighting strikes every year resulting Shiva -Lingam shatters into two pieces. Later on accordingly to the traditions it is repaired with butter by the villagers. This temple provides panoramic and commanding views of the Central Himalayas with the Kullu and Parbati valleys. Reach Manali by evening and check in at your hotel. Later on visit Old Manali village where you can have dinner in a local restaurant.

Today we will make an early start after the breakfast, as it is the longest day’s journey driving on a bumpy rough road to Kaza (3,600 metres / 11,811 ft). On the way we will stop for lunch and various photo stops. Today we will cross two mountain passes, Rohtang pass (3,980 metres) and Kunzum Pass, 4,550 metres and also visit the temple on the pass where travellers say prayers before heading down the pass. Today the views changes very dramatically from green to Brown and further to sandy barren landscapes. We will reach Kaza (district headquarters of Spiti valley) in the evening and check in at the hotel.

After breakfast explore Kaza market with your guide. Later on we will drive you to Tabo (3,050 metres / 10,007 ft). En route we will visit the Dhankar village, Dhankar monastery and fort. If interested we can take a walk uphill to the Dhankar lake (2-3 hrs both way), and this will provide you valuable acclimatising time before the trek. Later on we continue our drive to Tabo where you will check in at your hotel/ guest house. In the evening visit the famous Tabo monastery which is the oldest monastery in the Himalayas.

After breakfast we will be driving you to Kibber village (4,205 metres / 13,796 ft) via Kaza. We will stop at kaza market to fishing our final shopping for the trek and there are no villages in between Kibber to Korzok. Further we will continue our drive to Kibber and enroute we will visit the famous Kee Monastery, which is the biggest monastery in Spiti valley. In the evening we will hike to the nearby mountains where you can see big herds of Himalayan blue sheep and snow ibex .In dinner you will be offered a choice of delicious Tibetan dishes and you will meet your trekking support team (mountain guide/ helpers/ cook/ potters).Overnight at guest house in Kibber.

First day of Trek- after the breakfast at your guest house we leave Kibber behind and walk downto the narrow Parilungbi gorge. We cross the Parang Chu by bridge and follow a small stream until Dumla village which is last village on route towards Korzok and Tsomoriri lake. Now a gradual climb to the ridge from where splendid and spectacular view of Shilla Peak (6,303 metres) in Lingti valley can be had. We reach Thalda (Thaltak meadow) (4,570 metres/ 14,994 feet) by late afternoon. Evening tea and snacks will be prepared freshly and served to you in the camp, rest of the time free to explore the area. Dinner and overnight in camp.

Now trail descend to Parilungla Chu. Climb to saghthag and walking over moraine stretch further gradual and exhausting climb to reach the glaciated valley, one to the north and one to the south. We will follow the moraine stretch towards north and then arrive at the campsite of Borojen (5,180 metres / 16,995 ft), (Trek 6 hrs) which is a old camping ground, and is served as the base camp to Parang La Pass. Evening tea and snacks will be prepared freshly and served to you in the camp, rest of the time free to explore the area. Dinner and overnight in camp.

From the camp we start climb up gradually to Parang La Pass 5,580 metres / 18,307 feet, on patches of snow. Parang La offers panoramic and spectacular views of the peaks of Spiti valley, Changthang valley in Ladakh (Central Himalayas & Great Himalayas), and the pass falls on the old trade route between Tibet to Spiti and to Ladakh. Parilungi, a conical peak, is the first Ladakhi peak visible from the pass in Spiti valley. Parang chu river whose source is on the southern slopes of Parang La, can be seen flowing below. After the pass, the landscape changes dramatically from steep gorges to broad plains. Descend through crevasses and glacier, following the left site of river arrive at campsite of Kharsa Gongma. Evening tea and snacks will be prepared freshly and served to you in the camp, rest of the time free to explore the area. Dinner and overnight in camp at Kharsa Gongma (Dak karzong) 4,940 metres / 16,207 feet.

Today it is a gentle and easy walking along the river Pare Chu. It will be crossed before arriving to the Dhutung (Datang Yongma) (4,700 metres / 15,420 ft), (Trek 7-8 hrs) camp site. Evening tea and snacks will be prepared freshly and served to you in the camp, rest of the time free to explore the area. Dinner and overnight in camp.

Today again it is a easy walk along the right bank of Pare-chu. The valley becomes wide as we follow the Pare-chu. At different places we come across patches of grasslands which are the summer place of nomad’s (shepherds of Tibet and south-east Ladakh.). Evening tea and snacks will be prepared freshly and served to you in the camp Umdung (4,700 metres / 15,420 feet), (Trek 7-8 hrs), rest of the time free to explore the area. Dinner and overnight in camp.

Short stretch along the right bank until arriving a place where a stream joins with pare-chu. This trail goes further to Chulnar village in Tibet. We will cross Pare- chu river at this point and trek up to right side into the valley untill the landscape changes from dusty plain to green pasture ground. Here we will find Changpas (Tibetan nomads). Evening tea and snacks will be prepared freshly and served to you in the camp Norbu Sumdo (4,600 metres / 15,092 ft), (Trek 5-6 hrs), rest of the time free to explore the area. Dinner and overnight in camp.

A wonderful and exciting day of trekking as the landscape changes dramatically. Walking through pastures and sandy patches the valley becomes broader and broader. Walking through flat ground of the Changthang plateau we finally arrive at Tso-Moriri Lake. The lake is 24 kms in length and 6kms wide. Its shimmering surface reflecting the towering peaks that surround it is a sight to behold. We arrive at the Southern end of Tso Moriri Lake.Changpas (Tibetan nomads) can be seen with their flocks of sheep’s, goats and yaks near around the lake. The barren hills support a sparse population of wild life and bird life. Including Kyang or Kiang (the Tibetian wild ass- after them this place is known as Kiang Dom) (4,500 metres / 14,764 ft), (Trek 5-6 hrs), bar headed goose the migratory birds, black-necked ducks etc. Evening tea and snacks will be prepared freshly and served to you in the camp, rest of the time free to explore the area. Dinner and overnight in camp.

Beautiful walk along the lake, leads us to the pretty village of Korzok (15,000 ft) where there are some houses and a Buddhist monastery. It is the only permanent settlement in the valley. The view of the lake with Mountain Lungser Kangri (6,666 m /21,871 ft) in the background is absolutely unbeatable. Evening tea and snacks will be prepared freshly and served to you in the camp Korzok (Tso Moriri) (4,500 metres / 14,764 feet), (Trek 7- 8 hrs), rest of the time free to explore the area. Dinner and overnight in camp.

Today we will enjoy the beauty of the lake and its surroundings. We will explore Korzok village and will visit Changpa’s campsites on a large meadow above Korzok. Spend the day watching nomadic life at work. Evening tea and snacks will be prepared freshly and served to you in the camp, rest of the time free to explore the area. Dinner and overnight in camp.

After the breakfast we will be driving you to Leh by the jeep which has come from Leh to take us back into the town. A long but beautiful day’s drive back to Leh via Mahe Bridge and travelling along the Indus river valley gets us to Leh by late afternoon. Overnight at hotel.

Today you have a day at leisure. It is a free day to explore Leh by foot, or to visit the local market for your final shopping of Buddhist art, craft, carpets , silver jewelry etc. You can have lunch in the local restaurant where you can enjoy the choice of some Tibetan food. Second night in the same hotel in Leh.

After breakfast, in the early morning we will assist you to Leh airport to board the flight back to New Delhi. After your arrival at New Delhi airport you will be met & assisted by Summit Safari’s representative, and he will accompany you to your hotel. Check in at your hotel and have time to fresh up yourself, later on you may wish to go for a sightseeing tour of Delhi to view some of the famous sights of the town with a guide. We will take a walking tour of the Old Delhi covering the Chandani Chowk, historic Red Fort, and the busy market. If interested we will arrange for a bicycle rickshaw ride in old Delhi or a Tuk - Tuk (Three wheeler) ride in New Delhi for you. We will also visit Gandhi Smriti, also known as the Birla house where –Mahatma Gandhi had lived the last 144 days of his life from 09 September 1947 to 30 January 1948 when he was assassinated in 78th year of life at Birla House Prayer Grounds by Nathuram Godse. Thus, the house treasures many memories of his life. Return back to your hotel in the evening. Overnight stay and dinner in the hotel in Delhi.

Today after breakfast at your hotel, you will be assisted and will be transfer to the international airport at New Delhi to board your return flight.

This is where the tour ends. However, if you wish to stay longer in Delhi or want to take extension tour, we can make arrangements for you to be transferred to the airport at a later time.

A minimum of two three day of acclimatization is recommended for this trek at a height of 2,500 metres or above. This is a suggested itinerary based on our regular tour programme. Changes can be made into the suggested itinerary (Driving & acclimatization part). It can be altered, and we like to discuss plans with clients and can make suggestions about special places to visit depending on our clients’ interests, and available time. The itinerary is planned in such a way that you gain height gradually and gets a good time to acclimatize very well while trekking in the Himalayas.
